Engineer Neil wins top award.


Former Teesside student and cricketer Neil Sutherland has won the National Young Engineer of the Year title at the Building Services Awards.

Neil, 24, attended Guisborough's Belmont Junior School, Laurence Jackson Laurence Jackson was a Scottish curler. He was part of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club team that won the first Olympic Gold medal in curling at the inaugural Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France, in 1924.

He was the son of fellow gold-medalist Willie Jackson.
 School and Prior Pursglove Sixth Form College, before moving to Leeds.

He was well known at Guisborough Cricket Club where he was a wicket-keeper for six seasons.

He graduated from Leeds University in 2002 with an MEng in Architectural Engineering Architectural engineering

A discipline that deals with the technological aspects of buildings, including the properties and behavior of building materials and components, foundation design, structural analysis and design, environmental system analysis and
, following an exchange year in Pennsylvania.

Neil now lives and works in Leeds but is a regular visitor to Guisborough to see his parents Maureen and Rob.

Maureen said: "He has reaped the reward for all his hard work and we are extremely proud of him."
