Engineer Katy picks up national award.

A 24-year-old woman engineer from Huddersfield has won a national award.

At the Young Woman Engineer of the Year Awards in London last week she won the Mary George Mary George (b. in Aberdeen, Scotland), well-known as Elizabeth Thornton is an Canadian writer of historical romance novels. Biography
Mary George was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. She is a professor married to a professor. In 1967, she founded the St.
 Memorial Prize, which is awarded to the younger level of entrants.

She received a cheque for pounds 500, a silver salver and a certificate.

This is the first time this award has been won by someone from a local authority and from within the building services industry.

Katy is now a designer, but she spent years in overalls getting her hands dirty installing and repairing aircraft electrical systems.

She studied A-levels in maths, physics, chemistry and computing at Greenhead College Greenhead College is a former grammar school and current sixth form college located in Huddersfield, in the English county of West Yorkshire. The current principal is Martin Rostron.  where she was named top engineer.

She then got a job as an apprentice engineer with British Airways British Airways
 in full British Airways PLC

International passenger airline based in London. In 1936 British Airways Ltd. was founded through the merger of three smaller airlines.
 and spent four years on aircraft maintenance in Perth, Manchester, Cardiff and Heathrow.

She did a degree in air transport engineering at City University in London and while doing it continued to work at Heathrow.

She joined Kirklees in June 2003 and designs fire alarms, emergency lighting, CCTV security systems and renewable energy projects for council buildings as well as managing the projects on site.

She is now working with students at Spen Valley Sports College to design and build a wind turbine which will provide power to the school's technical block.

Katy said: "I've always wanted to do engineering. There are three girls in my family, but I was always the Lego freak and peering under the bonnet of my dad's car.

"I get my motivation from taking a project that is someone's problem and creating a solution. That's where I get a buzz."

Katy is the daughter of Graham and Linda Linforth, of Cleckheaton, and her sisters are Joanne, 23, and 21-year-old Hannah.

She is the Spen Valley District Explorer Scout Commissioner and takes Scouts aged 14 to 18 on adventure activities.

She is also a former Scout who has done her Duke Of Edinburgh Noun 1. Duke of Edinburgh - Englishman and husband of Elizabeth II (born 1921)
