ACTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 2004

First Public Demonstration of Multi-Service AP Design

That Enables Network Vendors to Boost Wi-Fi Performance,

Stability and Multi-Service Support.

Engim, Inc., developers of silicon technology that dramatically expands the manageability, security and capacity of wireless LAN infrastructure, today announced its demonstration of a new Wi-Fi access point reference design at the Smart Networks Developer Forum (SNDF SNDF Smart Networks Developer Forum

8247 processor. The design underscores the ability of Engim-based multi-channel wireless solutions powered by Freescale communications processors to eliminate the unpredictable performance drop-offs that now plague enterprise WLANs, and to provide the throughput and manageability to support the performance-driven applications and services that cannot be reliably supported by today's single-channel 802.11 network solutions.

Engim CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Nick Finamore notes: "Freescale Semiconductor is widely considered the leader in embedded computing. We see our joint customers wanting to deploy WLAN systems capable of delivering data voice video and security monitoring. The combination of Engim's WLAN capability and Freescale Semiconductor's processing capabilities enables our customers to deliver unmatched multi-service WLAN infrastructure solutions."

The innovative access point design enables vendors to rapidly deliver new WLAN infrastructure that simultaneously support multiple Wi-Fi channels and partition client traffic to dramatically enhance throughput. The design enables substantial vendor innovation in key 'hot button' areas such as security, service support, etc. Deployed strategically across the enterprise network, solutions based on the Engim design let vendors provide the performance and stability to drive wide-scale multi-service WLAN support throughout the enterprise.

The SNDF demonstration reflects recent Tolly Group findings on the sustainable performance levels of single-channel and emerging multi-channel 802.11 solutions under real-world enterprise conditions, and the dramatic improvements in performance, stability and multi-service support enabled by Engim's multi-channel radio chipset and the PowerQuicc II MPC8247 processor. The comprehensive test proved single-channel wireless solutions to be vulnerable to sharp performance drop-offs in ordinary enterprise conditions, where client mixes and the distances between users and access points changed regularly.

About the Smart Networks Developer Forum

A premier event for developers in the networking industry sponsored by Freescale Semiconductor, SNDF attracts engineers, architects and executives from networking equipment and solutions companies around the world. The conference features technical breakout sessions and the interactive Technology Lab featuring components, systems and solutions from Freescale Semiconductor and its Smart Networks Alliance members.
