Enfora Announces Low-Cost EDGE PC Data Card.

PLANO, Texas Plano (IPA: /ˈpleɪnoʊ/) is a wealthy suburb of Dallas, Texas, located to the north, mainly within Collin County, but also extending into Denton County. According to the 2000 U.S.  -- Enfora, L.P., a leading provider of wireless voice and data devices, today announced the EDG EDG Emergency Diesel Generator

0200, the company's latest addition to its comprehensive range of wireless data products. The EDG0200, which is currently being shipped in production quantities, delivers connection speeds up to four times faster than on conventional GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations.  networks.

The EDG0200 is a quad band Quad band (also known as quad-band or quadband) literally means four bands. Most people come across the term when it is used to describe a mobile phone supporting four frequency bands.  E-GPRS/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  cellular modem A wireless adapter that connects a laptop computer to a cellular telephone system for data transfer. Cellular modems, which contain their own antennas, plug into a PC Card slot or into the USB port of the computer and are available for a variety of wireless data services such as GPRS,  in a PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers. PCMCIA created the PC Card. See PC Card.  form factor for use on networks worldwide. It is an extended Type II compliant PC card with the antenna built in and is compatible with practically all popular notebook PC's equipped with a PCMCIA slot and Microsoft Windows Operating System. The data card utilizes BVRP's world-renowned Mobile PhoneTools(R).

"The EDG0200 is a perfect fit for those operators that have decided to deploy EDGE technology in their networks," says Christian Allred, Vice President of Sales at Enfora. "The Enfora EDGE PC card is an excellent option to provide a high speed connection, delivered at a reasonable price."

EDGE, Enhanced Data for Global Evolution (E-GPRS), is the technology that gives GPRS networks the capacity to provide data services similar to the third generation of mobile telephony. By deploying E-GPRS as an overlay within an existing GPRS network, operators can provide four times the data capacity of GPRS per subscriber. This, in most cases, can be achieved as a software upgrade to the existing network infrastructure while leaving existing base stations and cell sites intact. The EDG0200 enables connection to the Internet at data speeds of up to 236.8 kbps on an EDGE network. In situations where EDGE services are not available, the data card still enables reliable and secure data connections over traditional GPRS.
