The Mexican government awarded permits for two liquefied natural gas liquefied natural gas: see under natural gas.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG)

A product of natural gas which consists primarily of methane. Its properties are those of liquid methane, slightly modified by minor constituents.

Sempra's permit is a 15-year agreement authorizing Sempra to supply Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission with between 45 million and 280 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, reported the San Diego Union-Tribune. Their offshore terminal would be located about 14 miles north of Ensenada.

Greenpeace and the Mexican Environmental Law Center said they would challenge the awarding of the permits, alleging that the light and pollution from the terminals could harm wildlife on the Coronado Islands.
