Energis Calls with Coherent.

LEESBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 4, 1995--Energis, the UK's communications and information services See Information Systems.  company, has recently installed the leading edge EC-7000 digital echo cancellers from Coherent Communications Systems. Representing the initial stage of Energis' network expansion, the high performance EC-7000 units were selected after extensive trials for implementation on Energis' international traffic to Canada.

Energis built its 4,100 km SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) The European counterpart to SONET. See SONET.

primarily along the NGC's electricity transmission infrastructure. Fibre optic cable was either wrapped around the existing earthwire, or the existing earthwire was replaced with a new composite earthwire containing the fibre pairs. Fibre installed in this way is much more secure from the threat of vandalism or fire, than buried cables.

The Coherent EC-7000 provided the best match to our requirements. The provision of comprehensive self-test facilities will, we believe, be extremely useful in maintaining peak network efficiency."

Further expansion of the echo cancellation element is planned in the near future, involving the establishment of Energis' new calling card platform on the national network.

The Coherent EC-7000 represents a state of the art echo cancellation platform, based on Coherent's own 5th generation VLSI VLSI: see integrated circuit.
