Endovasc Ltd. Inc. Joins CytoGenix Inc. in Cooperative Research and Development Genomic Project.Business Editors/Health & Medical Writers BIOWIRE2K MONTGOMERY, Texas--(BW HealthWire)--Sept. 10, 2001 Endovasc Ltd. Inc. (OTCBB OTCBB See OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB). :ENDV), a pioneer in liposomal drug delivery technologies, has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement “CRADA” redirects here. For other uses, see CRADA (disambiguation). A Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) is an agreement between a government agency and a private company to work together. with CytoGenix Inc., a Houston-based genomics company involved in research, development and commercialization of single-strand DNA DNA: see nucleic acid. DNA or deoxyribonucleic acid One of two types of nucleic acid (the other is RNA); a complex organic compound found in all living cells and many viruses. It is the chemical substance of genes. (ssDNA) expression systems, producing unmodified strands of ssDNA for therapeutic interventions related to antisense antisense, DNA or RNA manipulated in a laboratory so that its components (nucleotides) form a complementary copy of normal, or "sense," messenger RNA (mRNA; see nucleic acid). , triplex triplex /tri·plex/ (tri´pleks) triple or threefold. triplex triple or threefold. , aptamer, and DNA enzyme applications. Endovasc's liposome liposome (lī`pəsōm', lĭp`ə–), microscopic, fluid-filled pouch whose walls are made of layers of phospholipids identical to the phospholipids that make up cell membranes. technology will encapsulate the CytoGenix intracellular ssDNA expression system and improve its targeting and cellular uptake. CytoGenix Executive VP, Dell Gibson, says, "Much of our on-going research is directed towards known sequences to help strategically align our interest with those of major players in the field. Given the broad application of this ssDNA expression technology, combining it with an effective liposome delivery vehicle makes it the kind of innovative, broad platform that will be extensively utilized throughout the gene therapy industry. We are delighted to work with Endovasc on this project." Endovasc Ltd. Inc. will utilize its liposome technology to develop a unique liposome that will encapsulate CytoGenix' ssDNAes sequences and protect them from destruction by exo- and endo-nucleases found on the skin and in the bloodstream. The liposome is composed of a combination of lipids, lipid derivatives, phospholipids, peptides, and proteins that serve as the vehicle for the plasmid DNA. Peptides or protein incorporated on the surface act like a homing device and steer the liposome to the target site. The liposome also aids in the uptake of the DNA by the cell, and components in the liposome help to release the DNA inside the cell. According to Dr. Diane Dottavio, director of Research and Development, "We're confident that the use of our liposome technology will significantly enhance the delivery and uptake of the plasmids, which will result in higher levels of production of the DNA sequence within the cells." Dr. David P. Summers, chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of Endovasc, expressed confidence in the upcoming projects, "Our liposome encapsulation of the CytoGenix expressions positions both companies to open a new chapter in therapeutic interventions. Endovasc Ltd. Inc. is extremely pleased to be a part of this worthwhile and promising endeavor." About the Company Endovasc Ltd.
