Endesa Completes a New 78.4 MW Wind Power Complex in Tarifa -Cadiz-.

NEW YORK -- Endesa (NYSE:ELE)

Endesa (NYSE:ELE) will have another 78.4 MW of new wind power capacity in Andalusia once subsidiary Endesa Cogeneracion y Renovables (ECYR) completes its new wind complex in Tarifa, Cadiz province, comprising the five wind farms of La Manga, Rio Almodovar, El Ruedo, El Gallego and Cortijo de Iruelas.

The complex is wholly contained in the town of Tarifa, and has 98 wind turbines: 42 Made AE-56 and the other 56 Made AE-59, both designs being 60 metres tall with unit generating capacity of 800 kV. The complex required an investment of Euro 75 million.

Operational tests on the La Manga turbines began in the last week of December, once the El Gallego substations were energized and the Facinas substation and high-voltage lines were up and running.

The tests involve observing the turbines in operation for two whole days to pick up any operational anomalies. After that, the turbines will go on to continuous operation. It is estimated that the complex will be online in 11 weeks.

The launch of these new facilities will raise Endesa's total wind power capacity in Andalusia to 168.4 MW.

ECYR is Andalusia's leading wind-power generator, with 10 complexes currently in operation and one under construction.

Across Spain as a whole, Endesa's wind generation capacity now totals 1,124 MW with another 247 MW under construction, giving it a 14.13% share of the Spanish market. Over the last year, the Company has brought online five wind farms with a combined capacity of 201.5 MW.

These recent farms add a new strand of renewable capacity to Endesa's generation mix, giving the company an appropriately diversified capacity and underlining its commitment to environmental and sustainable development issues in markets where it operates.

The Tarifa wind power complex was built as part of Endesa's strategic plan, which aims to build 2,100 MW of new capacity using renewable energies in five years.
