End of the line: King of the Road awards party, 8/20/05, the Knitting Factory, NYC.

THANKS TO OUR FRIENDS at Boost Mobile, we were able to step up the awards ceremony from last year's weenie 1. weenie - [on BBSes] Any of a species of luser resembling a less amusing version of BIFF that infests many BBSes. The typical weenie is a teenage boy with poor social skills travelling under a grandiose handle derived from fantasy or heavy-metal rock lyrics.  roast to a full-blown rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music.  New York City New York City: see New York, city.

was the spot and everyone who wanted to got in for a free basement of booze and an upstairs sonic explosion featuring uber-weirdos Ween (back for their first show in over a year). DJ Patrick O'Dell ran his I-Pod and a grip of New York's finest scenesters lolled out front and fought for space on the dance floor with the heavy presence of costumed and vocal Ween fans. Chris Cole took the stage to accept the Boost Mobile VIP award (getting a phone and the cash), and then the places were finally announced. Flat out, Zero ran away with it. In 2004 they won by 300 points, but this year (against possibly the gnarliest competition yet and dealing with multiple injuries), they took the top slot by a margin of over 1100 points. Word is they will be returning for an unprecedented third KOTR year. Let's just hope we can find three teams who think they can step.

JAMIE GAVE a very gracious speech and Bill Danforth tussled with security as he tried to mount the stage amidst cries of, "We won, 'cause we had the most fun!" Everyone jammed down to the basement where Jake pressed the flesh, Tommy wrestled all comers, and the Mystery Guests met their eager, grown-up grown-up

Thanks to Janae at Boost, the guys at Frank, Lindsey, Bertie P, Ween, O'Dell, Zero, Flip, Habitat, and Ewlement, and all the kids who came to support the King of the Road. Totally sweet.--MB
