Dr. Borow commented, "I agree with the conclusions from a recent report published by the Council on Foreign Relations The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is an influential and independent, nonpartisan foreign policy membership organization founded in 1921 and based at 58 East 68th Street (corner Park Avenue) in New York City, with an additional office in Washington, D.C.  (see link below), which stated that 'the probability of an avian influenza avian influenza: see influenza.  pandemic is high. When it occurs, its impact will potentially be severe in terms of loss of life, global economic disruption, social upheaval and political instability. This would be the first pandemic in the age of globalization globalization

Process by which the experience of everyday life, marked by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, is becoming standardized around the world. Factors that have contributed to globalization include increasingly sophisticated communications and transportation
. Its spread would be aided by international trade and travel and attempts to mitigate it will be hindered by breakdown in basic medical supplies and services.' It is clear that only with prevention and preparation are we as a society going to be able to cope with the challenges associated with this potential healthcare crisis. Our Symposium has been designed specifically to address the heart of these issues including the potential scope of the problem, the impact of Pandemic Avian Flu on emergency medical services An Emergency medical service (abbreviated to initialism "EMS" in many countries) is a service providing out-of-hospital acute care and transport to definitive care, to patients with illnesses and injuries which the patient believes constitutes a medical emergency. , and the role of the media in conveying and interpreting information about this healthcare crisis and, in the process, saving lives."
