Encentuate Adds Industry Veteran Tim Howes to Business and Technology Advisory Board.


FOSTER CITY, Calif. -- Encentuate, Inc., innovator of enterprise access security solutions that help enterprises simplify, strengthen and track access to their digital assets and physical infrastructure, announced today the addition of Tim Howes to the Encentuate Business and Technology Advisory Board.

Dr. Howes is known worldwide as the co-inventor of LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) A protocol used to access a directory listing. LDAP support is implemented in Web browsers and e-mail programs, which can query an LDAP-compliant directory.  (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (protocol) Lightweight Directory Access Protocol - (LDAP) A protocol for accessing on-line directory services.

LDAP was defined by the IETF in order to encourage adoption of X.500 directories.
), the Internet standard for directories. He has co-authored two books on directories and has written or co-written over 20 Internet Request For Comments (RFCs). Howes joins the Encentuate board with more than 15 years of technology and executive management experience. He is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Opsware Inc., the leading provider of IT Automation software, based in Sunnyvale, California. Prior to Opsware, Howes was Vice President of Technology for America Online, Inc., where he worked on technology strategy, acquisitions and investments. Tim also served as Chief Technology Officer of Netscape's Server Products division and was Chief Architect of several Netscape server products

Howes is a former member of the Internet Engineering Task Force (c/o Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), Reston, VA, www.ietf.org) Founded in 1986, the IETF is a non-membership, open, voluntary standards organization dedicated to identifying problems and opportunities in IP data networks and proposing technical solutions to the  (IETF See Internet Engineering Task Force.

Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries. . He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
