Enable Semiconductor Introduces Low-Power Fast Ethernet CMOS Physical Layer/Transceiver Line; New 3.3V EL40V331V Targeted at CardBus, Low-Voltage PCI.

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--Enable Semiconductor, Inc., today announced the first of its new 3.3V Fast Ethernet An earlier name for 100Mbps Ethernet. See 100Base-T.

(networking) Fast Ethernet - A version of Ethernet developed in the 1990s(?) which can carry 100 Mbps compared with standard Ethernet's 10 Mbps. It requires upgraded network cards and hubs.
physical layer/transceiver devices. The EL40V331V is a single-port device designed to serve a variety of low-power design requirements including CardBus and 3.3V PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

systems. Designed in pure CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  technology, the 3.3V device boasts a full feature set, providing 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, and 100Base-FX connection capability.

"Since its introduction earlier this year, our Fast Ethernet product line has been very well received by networking-product manufacturers, who've been eagerly awaiting these new low-power chips," said Robert Shen Shen, in the Bible, place, perhaps close to Bethel, near which Samuel set up the stone Ebenezer. , president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  at Enable. "The EL40V33lV reflects our commitment to develop and market silicon for all segments of the Fast Ethernet market, without compromising on performance."

Low-Power Performance

The EL40V331V combines low power with several unique enhancements making it an ideal choice for manufacturersof both mobile-computing and fixed-system products. Consuming a maximum of 150mA in full operation and a mere 30mA in full autonegotiation, the EL40V331V allows portable computing computing - computer  devices to consume very low power when connecting and disconnecting from the network. Low power during autonegotiation enables the system to maintain a fully compliant network connection as the user moves between buildings, offices, etc. This is in contrast to other methods being employed that are not fully standards-compliant.

Additionally, the EL40V331V's low-power features make it applicable in multi-port systems -- an application for which, until now, there were no multi-port devices suitable for system developers' current designs.

Like its 5V counterpart, the EL40V331V features extended cable length capabilities. The 5V EL40C331 was demonstrated at this spring's Networld+Interop show running error-free over 170 meters of Category 5 cable, and over 80 meters of Category 3 cable. The 3.3V EL40V331V will also retain these extended cable length capabilities, ensuring the user that the device cae EL40V331 is pin-for-pin compatible with its the EL40C331, allowing users who need to migrate to lower power an easy upgrade path.
