EnOcean's Energy-Harvesting Wireless Module Awarded 'Best of Sensors Expo' Gold Honors by Sensors Magazine.

MUNICH, Germany & BOSTON -- EnOcean, global innovator of wireless sensor see mote.  solutions powered by ambient energy, has won Sensors Magazine's "Best of Sensors Expo" (BOSE Bose   , Satyendra Nath 1894-1974.

Indian physicist whose work in quantum mechanics provided the base for a statistical description of the behavior of large numbers of bosons.

) Gold award for its tiny solar-powered wireless sensor module, the STM (Scanning Tunneling Microscope) A microscope that can image down to the atomic level. An STM uses a piezoelectric tube with a tiny sharp tip at the end that is moved within nanometers of the object being sampled. 100. BOSE honors are presented to new products with the best potential to change the future of sensor-enabled design.

STM100 overcomes the challenges to efficient wireless sensing: power-hungry radios and battery deficiencies such as limited life, maintenance and disposal. The device generates its own power using a tiny onboard solar cell solar cell, semiconductor devised to convert light to electric current. It is a specially constructed diode, usually made of silicon crystal. When light strikes the exposed active surface, it knocks electrons loose from their sites in the crystal.  eliminating batteries or external power supply. STM100 requires only indoor ambient light to operate, and in factory/office environments can store sufficient energy to run for up to five days in complete darkness. The STM100 can be combined with a wide variety of sensors such as temperature, pressure, humidity, gas, contact, brightness, etc.

The BOSE award was presented to EnOcean during a Reader Reception held June 7 at Sensors Expo in Chicago. The editors of Sensors presented Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards to 11 Sensors Expo exhibitors in four categories: Sensors, Components, Networking and Communications, and Data Acquisition. Products were judged on the basis of whether they have potential to change the way people work, whether they serve real needs, and whether they are highly distinct from other offerings.

"Best of Sensors Expo Awards recognize products we feel will have the greatest and broadest impact," said Barbara Goode, editor-in-chief of Sensors. "With the quality and strength of submissions, selecting the winners was a very difficult task. The expo is a magnificent display of innovation and ingenuity -- even products that did not win will likely have substantial impact in their specific areas."

Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Markus Brehler, who personally received the award at the Chicago exhibition. "The BOSE is an important acknowledgment of the technological value we bring to our customers. Impartial credits like these confirm our groundbreaking technologies as we drive to capture new customers and new markets around the world."

About EnOcean

Headquartered in Oberhaching, near Munich, EnOcean GmbH was founded in 2001 as a spinoff from Siemens AG Siemens AG

German electrical-equipment manufacturer. The first Siemens company, Siemens & Halske, was founded in Berlin in 1847 to build telegraph installations.
. Investors include 3i, BayTech Venture Capital, SAM Private Equity, Siemens Venture Capital, and Wellington Partners. The company's groundbreaking technology enables wireless sensors and switches that operate without batteries or external power sources. These self-powered modules convert process energy from light, push-buttons, vibration, or temperature gradients into useable electrical energy. The company's advanced power management architecture enables the operation of sensors and radios off miniscule min·is·cule
