Emulex Virtual Interface Host Bus Adapters Support Oracle9i Database; Emulex CL1000 VI Host Bus Adapters Designed and Utilized for Database Acceleration.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

COSTA MESA Costa Mesa (kŏs`tə mā`sə), city (1990 pop. 96,357), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific south of Santa Ana; inc. 1953. It is a transportation, residential, and light industrial center. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 2001

Emulex Corporation (Nasdaq:EMLX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), announced today its award-winning CL1000 Virtual Interface (VI) host bus adapters are the first VI HBAs capable of supporting Oracle's newly launched Oracle9i Database. Emulex and Oracle partnered on the development of VI support within Oracle9i Database and early testing with Emulex VI HBAs show significant improvement in throughput versus standard network connections. This announcement reaffirms Emulex's position as the leading VI-based host bus adapter supplier for database acceleration and scalability.

Emulex CL1000 HBAs implement the VI standard in hardware, allowing servers to communicate at unprecedented speeds with greatly reduced systems overhead and low message latency. Integrating Emulex's VI host bus adapters provides Oracle9i Database customers with substantial performance, scalability, and reliability improvements. Oracle9i Database uses the VI architecture for more efficient communications between an application server and an Oracle Database.

"Today's high-volume e-commerce applications require a rapid and reliable exchange of information across a distributed network to synchronize operations and share data. We view VI as an important protocol that will push the performance envelope for communications between applications and the Oracle9i Database," said Howard Cohen cohen

Emulex has been working with Oracle, the world's leading e-business solution provider, for a number of years on developing high performance networking for Oracle databases. Oracle9i Database is the second Oracle database product to leverage Emulex VI networks -- Oracle Parallel Server A version of the Oracle database system designed for massively parallel processors (MPPs). It allows multiple CPUs to access a single database.

"Our VI-based host bus adapters are designed to boost performance and scalability in Oracle9i environments without requiring application changes, and Emulex VI HBAs have become the VI development platform of choice for database applications," said Gareth Taube, senior vice president, IP Storage Networking Group, Emulex Corporation. "Oracle9i and Emulex VI host bus adapters address the high data delivery requirements of the most demanding Internet application environment."

The Emulex Family of Host Bus Adapters

The Emulex family of HBAs offers high performance, standards-based connectivity solutions for both Fibre Channel and Internet protocol (IP) storage networking environments. Emulex host bus adapters provide a unique combination of features required for mission-critical enterprise environments that deliver reliability, high bandwidth, server CPU CPU
