EVERETT, Wash. - The Emeralds and Everett AquaSox The Everett AquaSox are a minor league baseball team in Everett, Washington, USA. They are a Class A team in the Northwest League. Originally created as the Everett Giants in 1984, the team switched affiliation from the San Francisco Giants to the Seattle Mariners in 1995 when the  were rained out Friday night, forcing the teams into a doubleheader tonight, slated for a 6:05 start with a pair of seven-inning games.

    MORENO, Calif. - The Golden Gloves avoided elimination at the national 14-and-under softball tournament until their third game Friday, dropping a 13-1 decision to the Tribe of Kent, Wash., that ended the season for the Eugene team.

    In their first game Friday, Lizzie Morris hit a two-run homer to give the Golden Gloves a 4-3 lead on their way to a 6-3 win over the Silver Bullets of Beaverton. Taylor Pangnilinan had three hits for the Golden Gloves in that game and also drove in a pair of runs.

    The Eugene team then beat the Iowa Mystix 5-4 as Pangnilinan tripled in the top of the seventh and scored the winning run on a single by Morris.

    Barnes leads Thunder

    to three victories

    MOLINE, Ill. - Morgan Barnes led the Eugene Thunder to three victories as they fended off elimination Friday at the 12-and-under ASA national softball tournament.

    Barnes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored against the Express. In the second game, she got the complete-game victory with seven strikeouts. The final game was perhaps her best as Barnes went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

    Shannon Morgan, Molly McClaughry and Megan Harvey each had two hits against Chi Town, and Harvey went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored against the Tennessee team.

    The Thunder are among the final 16 teams as play continues today.

    CORVALLIS - Former Olympic team captain Fred Honebein, an assistant coach at Washington since 1998, was named Friday as the head coach of the men's rowing team at Oregon State.

    `Fred brings outstanding credentials to a high-caliber program at Oregon State,' OSU director of athletics Bob De Carolis said in making the announcement. `He has a strong rapport with student-athletes and he is committed to maximizing their experience at OSU.'

    Sisley breaks record

    in masters javelin

    DECATUR, Ill. - Eugene athlete Becky Sisley broke her own national record in the javelin Friday with a toss of 103 feet, 3 inches at the National Masters Track and Field Championships.

    Sisley, 65, first claimed the record in the 65-69 age group three weeks ago at a meet in Pullman, Wash., with a throw of 98-3.

    Sisley, who will compete in the 300-meter hurdles Sunday, also won the pole vault with a mark of 7- 1/2 on Thursday. She was second in the 80-meter hurdles Friday with a time of 19.4 seconds.
