Empire Ball.


Nearly $1,000,000 was raised at the 2002 Empire Ball held in behalf of the Diabetes Research Institute at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on December 4th. The event which was sponsored by the Real Estate Division of the Diabetes Research Institute, attracted a record-breaking 1300 guests and was emceed by the famous WB Channel 11 sportscaster, Sal Marciano.

The dinner/dance honored James Mignore, Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

 Organization, who received the prestigious Empire Ball award from the previous year's honore, John Santora of Cushman & Wakefield. The Camillo Ricordi Humanitarian Award was awarded to Michael Perrette, Vice President of Prudential Financial. Jay Koven, President of Ambassador Construction Corporation, lasy year's Humanitarian Award recipient, made the presentation to Mr. Perrette.

The evening started off with brief speches by Robert Pearlman, President & Chief Operating Officer of The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation; and Dr. Camillo Ricordi, Scientific Director of the DRI See Digital Research. . The big surprise of the evening was the appearance of Ray Romano Raymond Romano (born December 21, 1957 in Queens, New York) is an Emmy Award-winning and Golden Globe-nominated, American actor and comedian best known for his starring role on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.  (on film), the star of the hit TV show "Everybody Loves Raymond Everybody Loves Raymond is an American sitcom originally broadcast on CBS from 1996 to 2005. It is one of the most critically acclaimed American sitcoms of its time. ", who served as this year' celebrity host.
