Emperative, Inc., a leading provider of on-demand broadband provisioning software, today announced the addition of numerous DSL DSL

Redback Networks was founded in August, 1996. Redback is an ERICSSON subsidiary since the beginning of 2007 (was previously traded on NASDAQ under the symbol RBAK).

). The additions to the recently announced lab will accelerate service providers' ability to decrease the overall service roll out time by proactively completing system interoperability between the essential elements required for broadband service delivery.

"For broadband to grow beyond early adopter phenomenon to mass market acceptance, the service delivery process must be automated to allow end users ultimate control over the broadband services they desire," said Abraham Gutman, Emperative CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and Founder. "We're partnering with many of the industry's finest software and hardware vendors and systems integrators to enable providers to mature broadband offerings from flat-fee, all-you-can-eat access, to tiered-pricing, on-demand service selection."

The Yankee Group (the Yankee Group, Boston, MA, www.yankeegroup.com) A major market research, analysis and consulting firm founded in 1970 by Howard Anderson. It provides general consulting and strategic planning in the computer and communications field. , a Boston-based analyst research firm, has recognized the need for automating service delivery as "the provisioning bottleneck."(1) "Broadband access See broadband and wireless broadband.  will become more than a pipe to deliver information," wrote Fritz McCormick, analyst at The Yankee Group. "(Broadband) will act as a platform for the delivery of advanced services and applications that go far beyond connection speed and always-on reliability--the attributes that currently define the broadband experience--but will soon become commodities. For this reason, provisioning, in a broad sense, becomes essential to the carrier's success."

To break the provisioning bottleneck, Emperative's lab aims to give all broadband providers ready-made solutions for automating end user self-provisioning and bandwidth throttling Bandwidth throttling is a method of ensuring a bandwidth intensive device, such as a server, will limit ("throttle") the quantity of data it transmits and/or accepts within a specified period of time.  in real-time--a radical advance in pushing control over broadband services out to the enterprise and residential broadband end users. The addition of DSL's most prominent hardware and software suppliers to the lab bolsters an already impressive list of lab partners that includes Broadband Access Systems, Cisco Systems “Cisco” redirects here. For other uses, see Cisco (disambiguation).
Cisco System,Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO, HKSE: 4333 ) is an American multinational corporation with 54,000 employees and annual revenue of US $28.48 billion as of 2006.

Because of their graceful flight and their long pointed wings and forked tails, some terns are called sea swallows. They plunge headlong into the water to catch small fish. ). To accomplish the lab's goal, Emperative and its partners will use the lab to develop ilets (eye-lets)--intelligent, productized interfaces--from ProvEn, Emperative's premier provisioning engine, to the applications, network edge devices, and OSSs required to work together for on-demand delivery of broadband services.

Emperative will continue to build out its existing library of ilets necessary for automating service provisioning across all broadband access methods--DSL, cable, wireless, and fiber optics fiber optics, transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibers. Each fiber is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractance so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fiber . Currently, ProvEn supports ilets from the following vendors:

Broadband Access Aggregators: Redback Networks (SMS)

         DSLAMs: Copper Mountain Networks

CMTS and Modems: Broadband Access Systems, Cisco, RiverDelta
Networks, Terayon (SNMP, LDAP, DOCSIS), All DOCSIS 1.0 and
         1.1 Compliant CMTS and modems

Billing, Customer Care, and EAI Systems: DST Innovis
(formerly Cable Data), Jones Cyber Solutions,Portal, Remedy,
         Vitria

         OSS: Astracon, Micromuse

         Web Servers: Apache, Microsoft, Netscape

         E-mail Servers: Netscape, Sendmail, Software.com

DHCP/DNS Servers: Cisco Systems, ISC, Join, Lucent

         RADIUS: Funk Software, Lucent

About ProvEn

ProvEn is a sophisticated provisioning engine designed to enable end user self-activation and self-management of broadband services. It sits behind the service provider's web portal See portal.  and enables rapid subscriber enrollment through real-time and fully automated provisioning The ability to set up new communications services for customers automatically. Carriers use automated provisioning to set up their network based on customers' requirements. Such systems control all network devices from a central console and greatly speed up deployment time from days to  processes, reduced operating costs through significantly decreased provisioning errors and order rework, and quick rollout of new, value-added service offerings through easy introduction and management of network devices and servers. Ilets are the intelligent connections from ProvEn to other systems such as broadband applications, customer management, and network edge devices. Written in Java, they contain significant provisioning domain knowledge to provide a fault tolerant, highly network-aware interface while minimizing custom development.
