The U.S. Air Force has awarded Emergent Information Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:EITI EITI Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative

) a $4.3 million contract to continue enhancing one of the key radars used for counterdrug surveillance.

Emergent is a leading provider of IT solutions, mission critical software, modeling and simulation, and systems engineering to business and government.

The Department of Defense uses the Relocatable Over-the-Horizon Radars (ROTHR ROTHR Relocatable Over-The-Horizon Radar ) to provide continuous surveillance of high threat drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean. Emergent operates the ROTHR Enhancement Demonstration System (REDS) testbed that is collocated with an operational ROTHR.

Using the REDS facility, Emergent evaluates, demonstrates and speeds the transition of new technology to ROTHR without interfering in the operational surveillance mission. Dana Rauscher, vice president of Emergent Advanced Technologies and Law Enforcement Division in Rome, New York Rome is a city in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 34,950 at the 2000 census. It is in New York's 24th congressional district. The city is named after the Italian city of Rome. , said, "We have people working on-site at the radar facility and in Rome, New York to develop new technology to improve ROTHR performance and also assist other contractors with their developments."
