Elton hits the holiday highlights.

We realize it was just last week that buzz was all about slamming the early arrival of the Christmas season. But we now have a reason to cheer the early onslaught of the season.

That reason: "Elton John's Christmas Party."

You read that right. Elton John Sir Elton Hercules[1] John CBE[2] (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March, 1947) is a five-time Grammy and one-time Academy Award-winning English pop/rock singer, composer and pianist.  has released a Christmas compilation - along with every other yahoo on the planet. But one thing makes this CD collection pretty cool: a version of "Jingle Bell Rock" by the Ventures.

Yes, the Ventures, featuring Lane County's reigning surf rock Surf rock is a style of music that originated in the USA that mixes elements of surf music and rock music. Who would have ever thought that an Elton John collection would have a tie to Veneta?

On top of that, we have to give Sir Elton credit for a varied approach to his holiday collection. It also features songs from Bruce Springsteen, OutKast, the Flaming Lips, the Ronettes, Rufus Wainwright, John Mayer

Anyway, if you're up for some holiday cheer, the record should be available at your neighborhood Starbucks this week. Proceeds benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation Elton John AIDS Foundation is a charity fund that was started by Elton John to help fight HIV, AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases. He was inspired by the death of Ryan White & Freddie Mercury who both suffered from AIDS and were close friends of his. , so that's nice.

Meanwhile, on the Eugene scene, things are starting to wind down for that Thanksgiving lull. But that doesn't mean there still isn't some good music on the agenda.

Today, Amos Lee will bring his smooth, soulful stylings to the WOW Hall and the Moody Blues will resurrect their artsyfied brand of pop-rock at the Hult Center. Bonnie Raitt will bring her blues-flavored music to the Hult Center on Monday, while up-and-comer Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, youngest son of Bob, will get the reggae vibe moving at the McDonald on Thursday.

Ah, yes. It's beginning to feel a lot like November.
