Elmira principal honored for her dedication to arts.


Byline: The Register-Guard

Elmira Elementary School elementary school: see school.  principal Mary Jo Simone won the 2003 Alvord Award, given annually to a Lane County resident for exemplary service and dedication to the arts.

The award was one of three given Wednesday at the Lane Arts Council's ArtsParty.

Simone, who started her career as a teacher, has been a principal in the Fern Ridge School District since 1992.

She has been involved in YouthArts projects that link teens with elementary students and connect in-school and after-school activities. Elmira Elementary students were involved from February to June 2002 in a clay tile tile, one of the ceramic products used in building, to which group brick and terra-cotta also belong.
