Elitegroup USA promotes Ben Chan to CEO and appoints Sam Tsai as president.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1995--Elitegroup today announced the promotion of Ben Chan to chief executive officer of Elitegroup's U.S.-based operations and the appointment of Sam Tsai as president, replacing Chan.

Tsai will be responsible for expanding Elitegroup's presence in U.S. markets and developing the infrastructure required to localize production of motherboards, graphics and multimedia hardware products. Elitegroup recently purchased a 13-acre site in the Fremont area to house a factory designed to support just-in-time delivery of products to regional customers.

As CEO, Chan will focus on strategic planning and will explore the feasibility of new markets in cooperation with channel marketing partners.

"Elitegroup's focus is on developing the right product in the right area, for the right person, worldwide," said Chan. "This requires an extraordinary level of logistical efficiency and strategic vision. Sam Tsai's experience in both areas complements our vision," Chan said. "His career in the electronics industry spans over 20 years in operations centered in Asia, Europe and the U.S."

Tsai most recently served as international operations director of Elitegroup Ltd., at the company's headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan, where he was responsible for the development of new factories and logistical operations in China, Hong Kong and the Philippines. Prior to joining Elitegroup, Tsai was vice president and general manager of the Monitor division for Wyse Technology in Taiwan. Before Wyse, he was president of CAF Computer Corp., where he managed the company's merger with ASI Taiwan. Tsai joined CAF Computer from DTK Computer in Taiwan, where as managing director, he helped increase sales from $120 million to $250 million in three years.

Tsai holds a bachelors degree in law from a university in Taiwan, an MBA from Central Missouri State University and a masters degree in computer science from Texas State University.
