), a subsidiary of Elite Information Systems, signed a contract with an existing client to implement Encompass along with LawManager.net.

Jackson Lewis Schnitzler & Krupman, a White Plains, NY-based law firm, recently signed a contract for 600 Encompass licenses, primarily because it is the first portal-based document management system available built on the strength of Microsoft(R) SharePoint(TM) Portal Server (1) A network server that deploys portal services to a public Web site or internal intranet. ). In addition, the large firm needed a robust feature set to satisfy collaboration and information access needs inside and outside the office. As the first portal-based document management system, Elite Encompass delivers a variety of unique features and benefits. Elite Encompass takes advantage of the Microsoft SPS browser interface and extends inherent SPS document management support with extranet capabilities, folder storage policies, offline support and application-integration features. After Jackson Lewis purchased Microsoft SPS, implementing Encompass was the logical next step in taking full advantage of portal technology while meeting its document management and collaboration needs.

Accounting for its first international Encompass sale, Elite also signed a contract with Bell & Scott, a niche practice firm based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The firm, which has 50 users, purchased Encompass in addition to Elite's complete practice management suite. Bell & Scott has always taken advantage of the latest in intranet- and Internet-based technologies, and its decision to implement Encompass was largely based on the system's extensive customization capabilities and portal-based architecture.

The legal department of Cigna (Connecticut General Life Insurance Company), a longtime client of LMI, also recently implemented Encompass to meet its extensive document management and collaboration needs. Cigna has used LMI, a leading provider of legal software products for large corporate legal departments, to connect its in-house and outside counsel -- allowing them to collaborate on matter management. In addition to having the robust feature set that the large international office requires, Encompass also integrates with the Law Manager suite for a complete solution that can include invoice tracking, budgeting, case management, and records management in addition to document management functions. Because Cigna is planning for a highly customized implementation, the flexibility that Encompass offers ensures the system will ultimately satisfy its unique needs. Cigna also purchased LMI's LawManager.net, a completely web-based system that will improve collaboration between the company's U.S. offices and international locations in the Far East, Europe and South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. .

"We are very pleased with the early success of Encompass, and we're confident that our newest product will continue to gain momentum in a number of markets. And as with other Elite and LMI products, Encompass clients will benefit from integration with the external applications they use most frequently."
