-- Elite Imaging, one of South Florida's fastest growing and most technologically advanced medical imaging facilities, today announced the opening of its second facility in Aventura where it will offer physicians and patients access to the Siemens MAGNETOM Trio 3-Tesla (3T), high-field MRI - which uses the strongest magnet available in an MRI scanner.

Elite Imaging's new 3-Tesla scanner provides razor-sharp images for a multitude of medical applications including brain imaging, muscle and ligament injuries, bone traumas and many other pathologies. Additionally, the new scanner will play a vital role in helping physicians, patients and their families with early detection, diagnosis and monitoring progression of disease processes such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. .

"The MAGNETOM Trio advances the applications of 3T MRI scanning technology, which produces an unrivaled level of clarity in magnetic resonance imaging magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), noninvasive diagnostic technique that uses nuclear magnetic resonance to produce cross-sectional images of organs and other internal body structures. . We can now see elements of the human body that we couldn't see before," said Dr. Mark Zhuk, managing principal of Elite Imaging. "This system produces advanced, high quality pictures allowing us to provide physicians with the cutting-edge medical imaging required to detect and diagnose disease states earlier."

The new scanner enhances the utility of magnetic resonance imaging, a technology which has been widely used since the 1980s. MRI provides pictures of soft tissue that cannot be easily seen with x-ray technology, which includes CT or CAT scans.

"We have been using an open configuration magnet for MRIs every day, but that earlier technology has limitations in speed and resolution. With the new MAGNETOM Trio, we are now able to photograph and examine, in startling star·tle

. That means less risk, less pain, and better outcomes for patients," said Dr. Kalevi Soila, staff radiologist with Elite Imaging.

In addition to the new MRI scanner, Elite Imaging's new Aventura facility utilizes the BIOGRAPH 16 - a 16 slice-PET/CT Hybrid System A hybrid system is a dynamic system that exhibits both continuous and discrete dynamic behavior — a system that can both flow (described by a differential equation) and jump (described by a difference equation).  which combines the anatomically detailed information obtained from a CT (or CAT scan) with the metabolic activity recorded by a PET scanner PET scanner

Elite Imaging also operates other leading-edge medical imaging scanners including:

* The Hitachi Altaire 0.7, high-field open MRI, offering patients a non-claustrophobic environment that allows maximum light and air, while producing highly accurate images; and

* A Siemens High Speed PET System.
