) today reported financial results for the first fiscal quarter ended Dec. 28, 1996.

This amount is calculated by subtracting the following items from gross sales: merchandise returned for credit, allowances for damaged or missing goods, freight
 for the first quarter of fiscal 1997 were $36.5 million, up 26 percent from the $28.9 million reported in the first quarter of fiscal 1996. Net income for the first quarter was $2.6 million, compared with $2.0 million in the first quarter of 1996, an increase of 31% from the first quarter of 1996. Earnings per share for the first quarter were $0.27 on 9.8 million shares outstanding, compared with $0.21 on 9.5 million shares outstanding in the same quarter of 1996.
