This photo essay is cleverly designed to show us that some elephants do indeed produce painted pictures. To humanize hu·man·ize

 their efforts, Arnold compares the young animals YOUNG ANIMALS. It is a rule that the young of domestic or tame animals belong to the owner of the dam or mother, according to the maxim Partus sequitur ventrem. Dig. 6, 1, 5, 2; Inst. 2, 1, 9.  with young boys who also paint pictures. The layout is visually varied, but all the color photographs of the action and a few finished paintings are most attractively presented--both those produced by the boys and the elephants. We see only a trunk wielding a specially designed brush, so we have little understanding of the role of humans nor are any claims made for any special artistic talent. The visual narrative abounds in good feelings, appealing images, and speculations about the nature of the so-called "creative process."
