Elena beats Maria.


TENNIS: Elena Dementieva Elena Vyacheslavovna Dementieva (pronounced: L-e-nuh de-MENT-ye-vuh Russian: Елена Вячеславовна  held her nerve in an error-strewn Rogers Cup final to defeat fellow Russian Maria Sharapova 6-4 6-3 in Toronto.

Sharapova was playing in her first final since coming back from a ten-month lay-off due to a shoulder injury, but struggled with her service to concede the first set.

The three-time Grand Slam winner could not find any rhythm sending down nine double faults in an opening set during which she was broken in four of her five service games.
