Electronic Technology Corporation Introduces EL Drivers.

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 1999--

Electronic Technology Corporation announces the introduction of a family of electroluminescent See electroluminescence and EL display.  (EL) lamp drivers.

The ETC ETC - ExTendible Compiler. Fortran-like, macro extendible. "ETC - An Extendible Macro-Based Compiler", B.N. Dickman, Proc SJCC 38 (1971). 4823 and ETC4826 accept a wide range of input DC voltages and provide an alternating high voltage output suitable for driving an EL lamp. Electroluminescent lamps are commonly used for display backlighting back·light

in pagers, cell phones, PDAs, GPS terminals and other handheld and portable devices as well as in automotive applications.

"These EL Drivers are a key component in the expansion of our standard product portfolio. The use of electroluminescent displays in portable and handheld equipment is increasing, and these drivers compliment our other power management solutions for those applications," said Bernard Brafman, ETC's Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

The devices consist of a boost converter with internal switching FET FET: see transistor.

(Field Effect Transistor) One of two major categories of transistor; the other is bipolar. FETs use a gate element that, when charged, creates an electromagnetic field that changes the conductivity of a silicon
followed by an internal H-bridge that drives the alternating output to the lamp. Externally adjustable converter and lamp drive frequencies allow the optimization of power consumption, harmonics, lamp color, and lamp life. -0-
