Electronic Systems Announces RoHS Compliance.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Electronic Systems, Inc. has announced that its RoHS program has achieved verification status and that its engineering and electronic assembly operations are in full compliance with the RoHS lead free directive established by the European Union (EU).

Various customer projects are currently in process and many customers are taking advantage of our years of advance work and expertise to help them move into RoHS compliance. "We feel that the decision point has arrived and original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) need to commit to a plan for compliance or exception. At this point we only have one customer that has a signed formal exclusion for part of their product line to retain lead based solder," said Leo Reynolds, Vice Chairman. "Most products will be affected."

Jerry Guon, Director of Materials, urges each OEM "... review your products schedules and inventories and plan your conversion processes accordingly to eliminate obsolete material costs when the date for compliance arrives. It's very important that the decision for each product is made in time to allow for absorption of current leaded materials and acquisition of RoHS compliant materials."

The RoHS directive requires the removal of certain hazardous substances such as Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Chromium, PBB and PBDE flame-retardants from electrical and electronic products distributed in EU and Asia.

With that in mind, Electronic Systems has been working internally to be fully prepared with appropriate SMT equipment, PTH equipment, rework equipment, production and support training and a host of material management systems.

Since putting these systems and equipment in place, we are able to offer our customers a guided entrance into the Lead Free world, from Bill of Material analysis and scrubbing through final production of compliant product.
