Electronic Recyclers International Chairman Addresses VerdeXchange Green MarketMakers Conference.LOS ANGELES -- John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation's leading recycler of electronics, was featured as a panelist on the subject of technology, recycling and emissions reduction at the 2009 VerdeXchange Green MarketMakers Conference. The panel took place yesterday at the Downtown Los Angeles Marriot before a full house of the world's thought leaders and decision makers in the worlds of energy, environment and public policy. During the discussion, Shegerian argued that it is now "far too late to sweep this problem under the rug" and urged his fellow industry leaders to work with legislators on a global level to establish effective systems to correctly dispose of the massive amounts of unwanted electronics currently flooding the waste stream. He also explained the mounting environmental problems internationally -- caused by the glut of our and other nations' e-waste, as well as the forthcoming "tsunami-like" increase of e-waste domestically with the impending national television switchover to digital. Coby Skye of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works served as moderator of the panel which features Shegerian, Leonard Robinson, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Appointee as Federal Liaison to the DTSC, and Alisdair McLean of Plasco. The VerdeXchange Green MarketMakers Conference brings together decision makers from the spectrum of renewable technology and energy marketplaces to help companies and public institutions connect the green dots and choose and assemble less carbon emitting energy portfolios. "The roster of speakers and participants from green business, finance, regulatory agencies and environmental organizations that the GreenXchange conference has attracted from Europe, Asia and North America to Los Angeles, as exemplified by ERI's Chairman John Shegerian, is unprecedented," said David Abel, Chairman and Managing Director of event organizers VerdeXchange. "It speaks to how truly important, innovative and ground-breaking the clean and green technology marketplace is today, and to how necessary a global marketplace is for the acceleration and integration of climate change solutions." "It has been a an honor and privilege to be a part of this extraordinary conference, the premier marketplace of the green revolution" said Shegerian, "where many of the world's foremost innovators and business leaders gather to discuss the ways businesses can discover their own sustainable DNA - for everyone's benefit. Electronic waste is certainly a challenge with dramatic global environmental and human rights implications, but with very real solutions." Now the largest recycler of electronic waste in the world, Fresno-headquartered Electronic Recyclers is licensed to de-manufacture and recycle televisions, computer monitors, computers, and other types of electronic equipment. ERI processes more than 140 million pounds of electronic waste annually.
