Electronic Arts to ship six PlayStation titles in first 60 days; nine new titles to launch before Christmas.

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 1995--Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS), the leading publisher of CD-ROM interactive entertainment software, today announced the industry's strongest lineup of titles designed for the PlayStation, the next generation CD-ROM based advanced entertainment system from Sony Computers Entertainment of America (SCEA).

Electronic Arts will ship six PlayStation titles during the first 60 days after the system's launch, followed by three others shipping before Christmas.

Featured PlayStation launch titles are John Madden Football '96, the all-new 1996 version of the industry's best-selling sports game; Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, the premiere title in the Origin Interactive Movie line; PGA TOUR '96, the only officially-sanctioned PGA TOUR in a box; Theme Park, one of Europe's leading titles on the PC; ShockWave Assault, a 3-D action adventure game; and Viewpoint, the mega-hit arcade space combat simulation. In addition, EA will ship FIFA Soccer '96, Road Rash and Hi-Octane for the PlayStation in mid-November.

In John Madden Football '96, all the gameplay elements that made Madden the all-time greatest 16-bit sports franchise have been significantly enhanced for the PlayStation.

The 3-D rendered player graphics and animations allow for pinpoint control and a level of realism previously unattainable. The strategic element features over 240 Madden-designed offensive and defensive plays and Custom Playbooks for every team in the NFL. Games can be played in any of 30 different stadiums with variable weather conditions and playing surfaces.

Wing Commander III, Origin Systems' interactive PC-CD title that took the gaming industry by storm, is undergoing transformation by EA for the Sony PlayStation. It features stunning 24-bit high resolution movie graphics and an original movie soundtrack in Dolby Surround Sound.

Wing Commander III's impressive frame rate produces television-quality video that puts the player in the heart of the dogfighting action, interacting face-to-face with such sci-fi legends as Mark Hamill (Star Wars trilogy), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Star Trek: Generations) and John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark).

The Sony PlayStation's advanced architecture makes it an ideal platform for showing off this multimedia extravaganza.

PGA TOUR '96 is totally redesigned and enhanced for the Sony PlayStation and features two championship courses: Spyglass Hill Golf Course located at Pebble Beach and the TPC at River Highlands in Connecticut. Compete as one of the 14 featured PGA TOUR pros (or play against them) and experience what it's like to play on the TOUR.

The PlayStation technology allows EA to exploit Sony's 3-D graphics and texture mapping to provide the most realistic golf simulation on the market. The color and translucency capabilities of the PlayStation also enabled EA to provide full-screen videos with a richness of detail and quality not found on any other platform.

Think you can design and build the greatest amusement park in the world? Test your skills in Theme Park, a light-hearted business simulation game where you control every aspect of running a profitable amusement park from selecting the site, placing the rides, and hiring employees to maintain the restrooms and rides.

The advanced technology available in the PlayStation allows you to wander around your very own 3-D rendered park, enjoy the fully-animated introductory sequence, and ride the breathtaking rides for yourself. But beware, make any mistakes in park management and the bustling hordes of fun-seekers will let you know.

The revolutionary 3-D space epic, ShockWave Assault, places you at the center of the dramatic struggle to take back the Earth from an invading alien army. Unfolding in more than 50 minutes of full-screen video created using Hollywood movie-making techniques, ShockWave Assault brings an out-of-this-world game experience to the Sony PlayStation.

Viewpoint, one of the most critically-acclaimed arcade action games, makes its triumphant debut on the Sony PlayStation. Using advanced 3-D imaging, it delivers characters and backgrounds in thousands of colors. Viewpoint for the PlayStation introduces two-player, simultaneous gameplay. And every shot, explosion and rip on the thrusters comes through in heart-stopping CD-quality sound. PlayStation technology brings home the speed and graphics of an arcade-quality simulation.

Also available before Christmas will be FIFA Soccer '96, Road Rash, and Hi-Octane, award-winning titles that have been re-engineered to fully exploit the unique capabilities of the PlayStation architecture.
