Electronic Arts and 3Dfx Announce Strategic Partnership; Electronic Arts to Ship Ten New Games with 3Dfx Support for the 1997 Holiday Season.

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 3, 1997--Electronic Arts(TM) (NASDAQ:ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, today announced it expects to ship ten new computer games for the 1997 holiday season that will feature support for the 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics(TM) accelerator chipset.

Among the ten EA games to be shipped over the next few months are seven titles specifically optimized for 3Dfx technology:

NBA LIVE 98 -- NBA LIVE 98 is the most accurate representation of NBA hoops because of its superior artificial sports intelligence, second generation polygon players, cool style, original soundtrack, new player movements and controls. NBA LIVE 98, the soul of hoops, immerses game players into the NBA lifestyle like no other basketball product on the market.

Need For Speed(TM) II SE -- A fast, realistic racing simulation game that sports 11 licensed supercars; exotic, international tracks and stretches of road; and multiplayer capabilities, all set in an immersive 3D environment. Need for Speed II - Special Edition builds on the popular Need for Speed brand that encompasses real-life cars in appearance, sound and performance.

NHL(R) 98 -- The number one hockey game last year returns. NHL 98 features real NHL players that have been digitized into the game to provide authentic 3D animations and player graphics. It includes multiplayer support via LAN and modem.

Wing Commander(TM): Prophecy -- The next chapter in the epic space combat series pushes the envelope in all ways, including radical new 3D technology, captivating new game design and exciting multiplayer options. There's a heart pounding new plot featuring a new alien menace, with return appearances by Mark Hamill (Star Wars) and Tom Wilson (Back to the Future).

FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 -- EA SPORTS(TM) has meticulously recreated every aspect of the World Cup soccer qualifying experience and event environment in FIFA: Road to World Cup 98. The game combines classic FIFA gameplay with the authenticity of the World Cup license.

FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 allows game players to champion one of 172 nations through the preliminary qualifying rounds in one of six international confederations, towards winning the right to play in one of the 30 spots available for the final qualifying rounds in France for the coveted championship.

Nuclear Strike(TM) -- Nuclear Strike is a sequel to the best-selling Soviet Strike(TM) and is making its debut on the PC. The player, a member of an elite, covert military organization, Strike, must complete detailed missions within multiple levels of play in order to neutralize the madman before he unleashes a nuclear weapon on the world, which could trigger World War III. Stunning 3D graphics immerse the player in the action as never before.

Longbow 2 -- The cutting-edge sequel to 1996's Flight Simulation of the Year, AH-64D Longbow. Longbow 2 delivers an unmatched 3D experience complete with comprehensive multiplayer support, options to fly multiple helicopters, dynamic campaigning, and advanced physics and avionics modeling.

The remaining three titles to be shipped offer 3Dfx support via Microsoft's Direct 3D(R):

Madden NFL(TM) 98 -- A decade of collaboration between EA SPORTS and John Madden has resulted in the creation of Madden NFL 98, the most advanced interactive football simulation ever produced. Every team and player in the NFL has been meticulously reproduced to give the user as authentic a football experience as possible.

Andretti Racing -- Andretti Racing is the only head-to-head racing game that offers both Indy car and Stock car competition. It features 16 different courses, including four world-class Street and Oval tracks. Detailed 3D animations feature dynamic crashes with flipping cars and flying parts.

Moto Racer(TM) -- Moto Racer is a high-speed arcade style motorcycle racing game set in a detailed 3D environment. There are four road courses and four off-road on which to race. Moto Racer offers three modes of play: practice mode against the clock, single mode against 23 computer opponents, and multiplayer mode which supports up to eight players over a network or four players over the Internet.
