Electrohome Limited's electronics group achieves ISO 9001 registration.

KITCHENER, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 1995--Electrohome Limited, a leading manufacturer and marketer of display systems, today announced that both the Projection and Display systems businesses in its Electronics Group have been awarded registration to the ISO 9001 standard for Quality Systems.

The achievement increases Electrohome's competitive advantage as a global supplier of visual communications display products.

Display Systems, which designs, assembles and supplies product into niche display monitor markets, was officially awarded ISO 9001 registration in March 1995. Projection Systems, responsible for the design, manufacture and distribution of high-resolution video/data/graphics projection systems, acquired its certification in August 1995. Display Technologies Electrohome, the third and newest unit in the Electronics Group, intends to achieve at least the equivalent once it has completed its transition to new ownership.

Over the past two years Electrohome's Electronics Group has prepared for this achievement through intensive documentation of all its policies, processes and systems. Because a growing number of Electrohome's existing and potential customers view ISO 9001 as a priority credential of their suppliers, the certification will allow Electrohome to bid on contracts and attract customers that may not otherwise be possible.

"Ninety-five percent of the electronics products available today are exported mainly to the U.S., Europe and Southeast Asia. We realized that we needed to get ISO certification in order to be competitive with other companies."

ISO 9001, titled "model for Quality Assurance in Design/Development, Production, Installation and Servicing," is one of three ISO 9000 models that have been established as international standards for the implementation and management of a quality system. Of the three models, ISO 9001 is considered the most comprehensive and is used when suppliers must demonstrate the capability to design and supply product, and must prevent product nonconformity at all stages, from design through to servicing. Rigorous internal audits are done to ascertain that a company's systems fully meet these requirements.
