Electrohome Display Systems introduces C35 Series extended frequency range CRT displays; New series provides important source flexibility for financial trading and medical imaging markets.

KITCHENER, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 1995--Electrohome Display Systems, a leading supplier of direct-view display solutions and a business unit of Electrohome Limited, today introduced the C35 Series of high-resolution, extended frequency range CRT displays.

The world's first and only display family to operate over a full frequency range of 15 - 64 kHz, Electrohome's C35 Series has been purpose built to provide important display and customization flexibility for two key markets -- financial trading and medical imaging.

An extension of Electrohome's versatile C Series of color displays, the C35 Series consists of two distinct models -- one designed for financial trading environments and one developed to support medical imaging. In each application, the C35 Series' ability to accommodate sources with frequencies as low as 15 kHz provides a major advantage for users. The Series also features a 15" diagonal, high-resolution, flat square tube CRT display. Maximum resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels.

In financial applications, the C35 Series enables traders to produce high-quality displays of on-line information received from third-party providers -- information that is often delivered at low scanning frequency.

In medical imaging applications, the extended range of the C35 Series facilitates procedures involving comparatively low-resolution video. One example is the capturing of video segments from operating-room cameras for presentation on a display monitor for diagnostic, educational or other purposes.

Both models in Electrohome's C35 Series offer the same essential features, with slight modifications required by their particular market. Each is designed to support a broad range of display requirements, from traditional switched video signals and RGB applications to non-interlaced graphics.

The C35 Series incorporates many features designed to simplify set-up and use and to optimize image quality, including:

o On-Screen Display (OSD): a capability that enables users to control size, color and other image attributes via a simple, on- screen menu interface

o Digital Memory Sizing (DMS): a function that allows users to set and store display characteristics for up to 44 different signal sources

o Advanced signal discrimination: the ability to differentiate between similar incoming video signals and filter electrical interference from nearby signals to avoid display artifacts -- an important consideration in financial trading rooms with long cable runs

o Anti-glare CRT face treatment: a process designed to enhance screen readability by reducing reflections from ambient room light.

For greater ease of use, the Electrohome C35 Series complies fully with MPR II, a Swedish ergonomic specification that assures operators of minimal fatigue and eyestrain. In addition, the C35 Series offers VESA/NUTEK power management to reduce energy consumption and extend monitor life, as well as the convenience of a universal 100-265 volt AC, 50/60 Hz power supply.

Both the financial trading and medical imaging models supplement standard C35 Series features and functionality with enhancements designed for their particular applications.

The financial trading model, for example, incorporates special anti-magnetic shielding to prevent signal disruption from nearby monitors. Such protection provides a valuable benefit in trading rooms, which typically feature a large number of electronic displays in close proximity, including stacked monitors.

The medical model of the C35 Series features the modifications necessary to meet UL2601 medical-grade approval standards. These modifications -- which include side, rather than top, ventilation for enhanced spill-resistance -- save users considerable time and expense by providing a fully standards-compliant system right out of the box. The C35 Series can also be further customized by Electrohome to suit a user's particular requirements. Customization options include a virtually unlimited choice of enclosure color; a square metal, rather than standard plastic, enclosure to facilitate display stacking; and a touch-screen overlay for enhanced user convenience.

Electrohome's C35 Series carries the following regulatory approvals: FCC Class B, DHHS 21 CFR, CSA 22.2.950 NRTL, UL1950, 89/336/EEC, EN60950, EN29241/3, PTB, EN55022 Class B.
