Electroglas Receives Major Order from Motorola for Multiple Horizon 4090 Systems; Flagship probers become wafer probing solutions at three Motorola facilities.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1997-- Electroglas, Inc. (NASDAQ:EGLS), a market-leading supplier of expert wafer probing and information management products to the global semiconductor industry, today announced it has received a multimillion-dollar order from Motorola Inc. (Shaumburg, Ill.) for multiple Horizon 4090 wafer probing systems.

Selected as a result of a competitive evaluation, the 4090s will be used as Motorola's probing solution at three of its Arizona-based facilities: MOS 21 and Final Die Manufacturing Operations (FDMO) in Mesa; and the Advanced Digital Consumer Division (ADCD) in Chandler. The Horizon 4090s will be used in Motorola's production of state-of-the-art integrated circuit (IC) applications for the automotive, wireless communications and personal computer industries. Installation of the 4090 systems is scheduled through the end of the first quarter 1998.

According to Electroglas, the Horizon 4090's competitive win demonstrates the company's ability to meet the advanced needs of the largest chip producers. In determining the system that best addresses its probing needs, Motorola focused on over 30 performance criteria, including accuracy, reliability, throughput, software flexibility and overall customer support. The Horizon 4090's unparalleled automation was another key criterion in Motorola's selection of the system. Configured with DPS II, the system's automatic-probe-to-pad-alignment (APTPA), standard support of several reader formats, power loss recovery and Z probe card recognition best met Motorola's productivity requirements. The 4090 was also able to address essential system performance issues identified during head-to-head evaluation. Motorola considered the Horizon 4090's significantly higher meantime-before-failure (MTBF) performance as a fundamental advantage over the other systems.
