Founded in 1978, it is publicly traded on the Nasdaq stock market under the symbol CMOS.  Corp. (Fremont, Calif.), a leading manufacturer of automatic test equipment (ATE).

The project will investigate the effect on test yield of new methods of direct docking testers to probers at the newly formed Electroglas Prober Integration Center (EPICenter) facility (announced May 29, 1997). As a result of this joint effort, Credence Systems is the newest member to the EPICenter program.

in a production environment. Electroglas' flagship Horizon 4090 prober was selected for use in the program because of its automation features, which make it an ideal platform for direct docking applications. The Credence SC Series test system's compact design also makes it well suited for direct docking. This highly integrated solution is expected to improve test yields by allowing a shorter test signal path and minimizing the yield-limiting independent vibrations between the two units, which should significantly increase sort floor productivity. The tightly integrated solution will also reduce the footprint required for the test cell.

Electroglas, this type of joint project will help advance and strengthen both companies' product testing capabilities and their technological leadership. Jeff Hintzke, Electroglas' director of marketing for interfaces and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  products, stated, "Highly integrated solutions -- test cells -- are becoming an increasingly important part of the semiconductor wafer test market.  become more complex, test cells will become a requirement for sort floors." Hintzke concluded, "We are addressing the ongoing efforts to increase productivity and improve performance by characterizing total solutions rather than individual products."

Fully characterizing devices earlier in the manufacturing process offers chipmakers a fundamental economic advantage in increasing profitability by driving up yields. "This test-cell type application addresses the wafer sort needs of future device production by examining a possible solution to increase profitability," noted Andrei Berar, Credence's vice president, systems integration. "This is an example of how Credence and the EPICenter will help fuel the development of future-generation wafer testing technologies that allow our mutual customers to achieve higher yields with uncompromising performance. We are pleased to participate in such a dynamic program that specifically focuses on cultivating leading-edge solutions," added Berar.

The EPICenter is located on the Electroglas corporate campus in Santa Clara. Formed by Electroglas as a cooperative venture with several ATE, probe card A probe card is an interface between an electronic test system and a semiconductor wafer.
