Ad Campaign Opposes Federal Rate Scheme - 'Let Florida Decide'

"Hide your wallets, lock your doors, and get ready to pay, " the ad begins. "There is a new scheme being hatched in Washington -- it's called electricity rate restructuring." "Do you think the government in Washington tinkering with your electricity bill is good news for you and your family?" the ad queries. "Fortunately, our Congressman, Mike Bilirakis, is standing tall for Florida and standing firm against the powerful special interests peddling this electricity scheme," the ad continues. "Bilirakis understands that when it comes to decisions about electricity rates in Florida -- Florida should decide, not the special interests in Washington." The ad refers to legislation introduced by Congressman Dan Schaefer, Chairman of the Energy and Power Subcommittee, that would force federally- mandated rate restructuring on Florida. The ad also refers to a coalition supporting Chairman Schaefer's bill that includes some of the biggest corporations and retail chains in the nation such as Exxon, Dow Chemical, Kmart, Sears and JC Penney. "Mr. Bilirakis shares important concerns about this 'one-size-fits-all' legislation," stated Mr. Bill Steinmeier, National Chairman, Electric USA.
