Electric Lightwave delivers competitive local service to Portland, Ore.


PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1996--For the first time in nearly 80 years Portland-area businesses have a choice when it comes to local telephone service.

"Our customers have told us that one-stop shopping is very important to them," Mike Daniel, ELI's Oregon general manager said. "The addition of local service -- along with our long distance and high-speed private line networks -- makes us a true full-service communications company Communications Company is a communications unit of the United States Marine Corps. In November of 1994, ELI was the first to request authority from the Oregon Public Utility Commission to provide competitive dial tone services. On Jan. 12, 1996, the request was granted; and, on April 18, ELI reached a interim interconnection in·ter·con·nect

This is the third major announcement in three weeks for Electric Lightwave: On Aug. 21, ELI announced the arrival of competitive local service in Salt Lake City; and on Aug. 28 they reached a comprehensive interconnection agreement with Pacific Bell to provide local service in the Sacramento, Calif. area.

Based in Vancouver, Wash., Electric Lightwave is a full-service communications company which owns and operates telecommunications systems in several Western states.
