Electric Cloud Creates Open Source ``GNU Make Standard Library''.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Electric Cloud, the software build infrastructure company, today announced that the company has sponsored the creation of the GNU Make Standard Library (GMSL). Aimed at providing a common set of tools for all users of GNU Make, the GMSL was created by Electric Cloud Chief Scientist John Graham-Cumming and is an invaluable tool for GNU Make developers and a foundation that simplifies the creation and maintenance of complex build environments.

Until now, when developers wished to create a complex Makefile they were often forced to code, from scratch, common functions, or search the Internet for snippets of GNU Make code that could assist them. Now, with the GMSL, GNU Make developers have a single free collection of functions implemented using native GNU Make functionality. The GMSL includes list and string manipulation, integer arithmetic, associative arrays, stacks, debugging facilities and more.

Electric Cloud Accelerates Builds

Electric Cloud 2.1 is for medium-to-large software development teams unhappy with ever-increasing build times. Electric Cloud 2.1 accelerates builds 10 - 20 times by distributing the software build in parallel across scalable clusters of inexpensive, industry-standard servers.

At the core of Electric Cloud 2.1 is Electric Make, which is plug-compatible with existing Make-based build infrastructures so it can be rapidly deployed with little or no change to existing tools or environments.

In order to ensure that parallel builds will not break, Electric Cloud has developed a patent-pending dependency management system that captures perfect dependency information by monitoring all files accessed during a build. Electric Cloud 2.1 records and re-uses build dependency information, minimizing the Makefile maintenance required to achieve and maintain build performance.
