Elder-Beerman Department Stores Total Sales Increase 14.8% for June; June Comparable Sales for Department Stores Decreased 0.5%.

) today announced its sales results for the five-week period ended July 3, 1999.

June total department store sales, including sales for the eleven retained Stone & Thomas (language) Thomas - A language compatible with the language Dylan(TM). Thomas is NOT Dylan(TM).

The Company noted that, despite the comparable store sales decrease for June, businesses that performed well were cosmetics cosmetics, preparations externally applied to change or enhance the beauty of skin, hair, nails, lips, and eyes.
