Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. Introduces the EL6274C High Performance Analog Laser Driver IC for the CD-R/RW Optical Disk Market.MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)---Jan. 25, 1999-- Single-Chip Monolithic Design Enables High Performance Solutions that Reduce System Costs and Save Board Space Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (NASD NASD See: National Association of Securities Dealers NASD See National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). :ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog ICs, today introduced the EL6274C, a product design specifically for the emerging high growth CD-R/W optical disk drive market. The new EL6274C offers industry standard functionality and compatibility to enable next generation laser driver designs for the CD-R (CD-Recordable) A writable CD technology using a type of compact disc that can be recorded, but not erased (CD-Rs are "write once" discs). CD-R discs are used to master CD-ROMs, to back up data and to make copies of data for distribution. and the CD-R/W. The EL6274C joins Elantec's family of laser driver ICs which are targeted at the rapidly growing optical disk storage markets. The EL6274C integrates the four (4) current channels needed for the read, erase, bias, and write laser drive power levels, and are compliant with the Orange Specification Standard for CD-R and CD-R/W write formats. The EL6274C also integrates the high-frequency modulator Modulator Any device or circuit by means of which a desired signal is impressed upon a higher-frequency periodic wave known as a carrier. The process is called modulation. The modulator may vary the amplitude, frequency, or phase of the carrier. A pendulum is a simple mechanical oscillator that swings with a constant amplitude, requiring the addition of energy at each swing only to compensate for the energy lost because of air and a high-speed power output current driver. This innovative integration reduces board space, component count, and design time and allows flexibility to optimize the design. Steve Sacarisen, Elantec's Product Line Manager, Optical Products Group said, "The EL6274C offers a value-oriented solution to OEM's for its Optical Pick-Up Head (OPU OPU Ovum Pick-Up OPU Office des Publications Universitaires OPU Optical Channel Payload Unit OPU Oil Pick Up (spinning) OPU Optical Pickup Head (DVD drives) OPU Outstation Processing Unit ) design. The EL6274C compliments our existing EL6257C and EL6259C products and positions our Optical Product Family to offer a solution that meets the market trend toward faster write speed performance. Pricing for the EL6274C is $2.50 in 10K quantities. The EL6274C is available in a 24-Pin QSOP QSOP Quarter Size Outline Package QSOP Quarter Small Outline Package QSOP Quad Small Outline Package QSOP Quadripartite Standing Operating Procedures QSOP Quarterly Standing Order Plan QSOP Quality Standard Operating Procedure QSOP Quarter Sized Outline Package package and is now in production.
