Elantec has developed a read channel preamplifier Preamplifier A voltage amplifier suitable for operation with a low-level input signal. The three new read channel pre-amplifier ICs -- the EL6262C, EL6263C and EL6265C -- are compatible with CD and DVD industry standard media. The EL6262C, EL6263C and EL6265C are highly integrated analog-intensive mixed-signal ICs designed to sense and amplify the read channel photo-detector diode currents while performing buffering and pin programmable gain-switching functions. The family consists of two 8-channel preamplifiers, the EL6262C and the EL6263C, and a 13-channel preamplifier, the EL6265C. All preamplifiers incorporate an auto-zero function that reduces the amplifier initial and differential offset errors or any temperature offset errors down to less than 10mV per amplifier. This feature increases the dynamic range, and, consequently, lowers tracking and read-back errors. Stephen P.
