MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2000

Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog ICs, today introduced the EL5191C, EL5192C, and EL5193C, the Company's fastest current feedback amplifiers (CFA (Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986) Signed into law in 1986, the CFA was a significant step forward in criminalizing unauthorized access to computer systems and networks. The Act applies to "federal interest computers" that include any system used by the U.S. ) to date.

The EL5191C, the highest speed variant within this new product family, features a bandwidth of 1GHz as well as a slew rate (1) How fast paper moves through a printer (ips).

of 4000V/us, while operating from just 9mA of supply current. Next is the EL5192C with a bandwidth of 600MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. , a slew rate of 3400V/us, and a supply current of just 6mA. Finally, the EL5193C is a 300MHz amplifier with a slew-rate of 3000V/us and a supply current of just 4mA. All amplifiers in this product family feature low offset and exhibit very low distortion characteristics. A power-down/output-enable feature is also available on some package options. With a turn-off time of 25ns and a turn-on time of 10ns, these amplifiers are ideal for multiplexing applications.

, director of Strategic Marketing for Video and Amplifier Products at Elantec comments, "The specifications of these new CFA's once again position Elantec as a dominant force in the high-performance operational amplifier operational amplifier, amplifier whose output voltage is proportional to the negative of its input voltage and that boosts the amplitude of an input signal many times, i.e., has a very high gain.  market." He further comments, "These specifications have been chosen to meet the requirements of applications in our target market segments, as well as those of many general purpose analog processing applications. They will be of particular interest to our video customer base where the move to higher resolution displays is pushing the need for higher bandwidth products."

All three amplifiers are available in the industry standard 8-Pin SOIC (Small Outline IC) A small-dimension, plastic, rectangular, surface mount chip package that uses gull-wing pins extending outward. See gull-wing lead, SOJ and chip package.  package, as well as the SOT23-5 and SOT23-6 packages. The enable feature is available in the SOIC and SOT23-6 packages only. The price for 1000-piece units of the 1GHz, EL5191C is $2.00, with the 600MHz, EL5192C priced at $1.60, and the 300MHz, EL5193C priced at $1.30 in the same volumes.
