El Museo del Barrio unveils designs for new expansion.El Museo del Barrio Founded in 1969 by a group of Puerto Rican artists, educators,community activists and civic leaders, El Museo del Barrio is located at the top of Museum Mile in New York City (USA), in East Harlem a neighborhood also called 'El Barrio' and is the only museum dedicated to the , New York's premier Latin American cultural institution, hosted a ceremony last week to celebrate the museum's upcoming interior and exterior renovations by Gruzen Samton Architects and to honor those public officials who made the reconstruction possible. The event, which was held at the soon-to-be renovated Heckscher Building, at 1230 Fifth Ave., featured the presentation of renderings for the new design, as well as remarks by some of New York's most prominent political figures. Gruzen Samton's design of the museum's space in the Heckscher Building, which received an award for Excellence by the Art Commission of the City of New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of , features a transparent glass facade that will enhance the visibility, of the art and programs from within the Museum. A renovated courtyard, improved lobby space and signage, an expanded museum shop, upgraded elevators and new restrooms and coat-check facilities are also included in the new plan. Fulfilling the long-time need for a local gathering space, an on-site cafe will benefit visitors to El Museo, to Central Park and to el barrio, and will provide a flexible setting for extended programming and special events. The cafe will offer Latin cuisine and is to be operated by Great Performances, who catered Monday's event and provided a preview of the menu. Other features of the project include a structural light pylon pylon (Greek: “gateway”) In modern construction, a tower that gives support, such as the steel towers between which electrical wires are strung or the piers of a bridge. that will support a graphics banner; a metal canopy wrapping the courtyard; a glass-enclosed hallway facilitating circulation and operation of the Museum's public spaces; and additional audio/visual and security systems.
