) - Eisai has signed an agreement with DNAVEC on drug discovery research for Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia.  (AD). Under the agreement, the two companies aim to develop a vaccine therapy vaccine therapy A therapeutic strategy to boost the immune response against a particular pathogen to such degree that the vaccine alone is enough to treat the Pt  for AD.

Specifically, using DNAVEC's proprietary Sendai virus vector, they plan to develop a gene vaccine that can selectively induce the production of anti-beta amyloid amyloid /am·y·loid/ (am´i-loid)
1. starchlike; amylaceous.

2. the pathologic, extracellular, waxy, amorphous substance deposited in amyloidosis, being composed of fibrils in bundles or in a meshwork of polypeptide
 antibodies. Beta amyloid is considered to play a role in preventing and suppressing the progress of AD.

Eisai has a prior right to develop, manufacture and sell results obtained from the partnership.
