Einstein to honor Handlers.

Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University will honor Lyn and Jerry Handler of New York City at its Gala 2000 on Sunday, February 13th at The Mara-Lago Club in Palm Beach, FL. Handler is the managing partner of Handro Properties, a real estate company that buys, sells and leases properties in New York City.

The black-tie event also will recognize Priscilla and U.S. Senator Connie Mack of Florida for their efforts to promote the early detection of cancer and their commitment to medical research. Senator Mack, who believes that the Federal government has a legitimate and important role in furthering medical research, was instrumental in securing a $2.3 billion increase for fiscal year 2000 - the largest ever - in the budget of the National Institutes of Health.

Among the highlights of the evening will be a performance of by the legendary rhythm and blues and pop trio The Pointer Sisters.

Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz are chairing the gala. Co-chairpersons are Carol and Paul Chanin, Joan and Robert Figen, Diane and William Hallenbeck, Rebecca and Howard P. Hoffman, Eileen and Morris Karp, Alice and Ira Kent, Lola Kramer, Rena and Leonard Lauren, Shirley and Samuel R. Patent, Rita and Philip Rosen, Carole and Alvin Schragis, Barbara and Joseph Strassman, Gloria and Seymour Svirsky, Norma and Jay Weinrib, and Frances and Robert Weisman.

Plans for the occasion include a Commemorative Journal, chaired by Philip Altheim, Saul Kramer and Scott G. Handler.

Albert Einstein College of Medicine is honoring Lyn and Jerry Handler for their outstanding commitment to medical research and education, for their community leadership and for the concern they have shown for the sick and less fortunate during the past 40 years. Mr. Handler is a member of both the Einstein Board of Overseers and the executive board of the College's Men's Division. A founding member of the Men's Division, he served as its fifth chairman. He and Mrs. Handler are Einstein Benefactors.

The recipient of an honorary degree from Yeshiva University, Mr. Handler is chairman of the board of the Yonkers Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, which works to prevent child abuse throughout Westchester County. He is a graduate of the New York Military Academy and the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as a lieutenant colonel in the New York Guard, a back-up unit to the National Guard, and is a member of the Police Reserve Association of the City of New York, an organization which establishes, among other things, fellowships for children of police officers. He is also a member of the board of directors and executive committees of the American Mayflower Life Insurance Company and the General Electric Capital Life Assurance Company.

An artist and portrait painter; Mrs. Handler volunteers as a teacher of art at Dorot in New York City, an organization that provides services and activities for the elderly, and to the children at the Alternative School who come to share time with Dorot's members. She also is a member of the board of the Yeshiva University Museum.
