Eighteen of the world's poorest countries will receive debt relief totaling about $55 billion from the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. The measures were approved in late September September: see month. , and the G8 nations--Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the U.S.--will foot the bill.
