Eidos Interactive to Publish Games From Looking Glass; Flight Unlimited II, Sequel To The Award-Winning Civilian Flight Sim To Be The First From Eidos.
Flight Unlimited II, sequel to the award-winning Flight Unlimited, The Dark Project and Junction Point, next generation action/RPG games from the creators of Ultima(R) Underworld(TM) and System Shock(TM).
Last month Looking Glass Technologies merged with Intermetrics, best known for its development of high-end, complex systems for NASA, military, and government applications. Previously, Eidos and Looking Glass partnered in a distribution only agreement, however, the newly formed Intermetrics/Looking Glass LLC adopted a development studio model to focus on the creation of triple A titles and shift the publishing efforts to Eidos.
"Extending our partnership with a leading publisher such Eidos will be an even greater opportunity for us," says Paul Neurath, Managing Director of Looking Glass. "Their strong sales model and marketing expertise will definitely compliment our development skills."
The first title scheduled for release this Fall is Flight Unlimited II, a general aviation sequel to the best-selling aerobatic flight simulation. This time, Flight Unlimited II focuses on civil aviation and features five distinct civilian craft, as well as 11,000 square miles of high resolution photo-accurate San Francisco Bay Area terrain to explore. Flight Unlimited II offers a new level of experience with its revolutionary rendering engine, accurate flight models, groundbreaking interactive air traffic control, and stunning weather effects.
The creators of the legendary first-person role-playing games, Ultima Underworld and its follow-up title, System Shock, are planning to surpass their previous efforts with The Dark Project. The Dark Project's unique blend of action and role-playing elements unfold in a techno-medieval fantasy world, featuring a new 3D engine with Act/React simulation technology, and the immersive depth and realism that Looking Glass is famous for.
Junction Point (working title) is a science fiction action/RPG, which will share the 6D engine used by The Dark Project. Special feature engine enhancements will be prevalent with the next generation 3D accelerator cards when the title is release in the fall of 1998.
"We are very excited to enter the new publishing agreement with a premier developer such as Looking Glass," says Mike McGarvey, COO of Eidos Interactive. "We plan to play an important role in the success of their high-quality titles."
Eidos Interactive develops and publishes interactive entertainment products for the PC, Sony PlayStation, Nintendo 64 as well as the Internet. Eidos Interactive is part of Eidos plc (NASDAQ:EIDSY), which includes Eidos Technologies, a software-based video compression and decompression company, Glassworks, a state-of-the-art post-production facility specializing in digital effects and video editing for the television and advertising industries, Eidoscope, an interactive marketing and website design firm, and an independent record label called Naked Records.
