Ei Announces Version 3.0 of Engineering Information Village.


HOBOKEN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 1997--Engineering Information Inc. (Ei) has added several new features and significant navigational enhancements to its Engineering Information Village(TM), the unique cyberspace Coined by William Gibson in his 1984 novel "Neuromancer," it is a futuristic computer network that people use by plugging their minds into it! The term now refers to the Internet or to the online or digital world in general. See Internet and virtual reality. Contrast with meatspace.  community that integrates traditional and informal database resources with newswires, text delivery, Web site guides and community services for subscribing technical professionals, managers and academics. The Company offers free 30-day trials of its Web-based service through its home page, at http://www.ei.org.

Release 3.0 also features new Ei Monitors, a current awareness service backed by full text delivery. It provides the most significant and up-to-date articles from 145 core journals in 27 engineering industries and disciplines. Updated weekly, and offering a database of two years worth of material, Ei Monitors is a free tables of contents service for Ei Village residents, with documents available in one business day at applicable document ordering charges. Also being added is the new Network of Experts for engineering and technology, a vital people-to-people resource from Ei and Community of Science, who have partnered to provide a searchable database Refers to databases on the Web that are searchable by typing in a query. The term is quite redundant because all databases are searchable. With the release of Version 3.0, Ei is also launching its Electronic Ei Text services, bringing fulfillment of 1990's document delivery back under Ei management, with enhanced services Enhanced service is service offered over commercial carrier transmission facilities used in interstate communications, that employs computer processing applications that act on the format, content, code, protocol, or similar aspects of the subscriber's transmitted information;  for Ei Village residents, and Electronic Ei Text Featured Articles, a full text service electronically delivering select articles of timely interest for immediate delivery to the desktop.

As for interface enhancements, residents will gain even more speed and flexibility in finding information, with the built in addition of short-cut menus that allow lateral movement Lateral movements are movements made on a horse that are used for training purposes, that involve the horse moving in a direction other than straight forward.
