PhoneMiser is a computer peripheral, software and service package that automatically searches for and delivers to users the lowest possible long distance rates. PhoneMiser consists of a small hardware device that plugs into the parallel port of a Windows 95, Pentium-based computer and connects to the telephone. When the user makes a phone call, the software searches MediaCom's database of long distance carriers and selects the best rate for that call. The customer's bill is consolidated through his or her major credit card, and the cost per call and savings can be displayed on the PC monitor in the PhoneMiser log. MediaCom guarantees that users will always get the lowest rate in their database for every long distance or international phone call made. "Egghead is excited to bring PhoneMiser to the public," said Jim Kalasky, vice president of Merchandising and Advertising for Egghead. "We think this product is a real answer to the confusion of long distance calling plans. We know it's going to be a hit with small business people and home users alike." "We're glad to be working with Egghead," said Robert Pokress, president of MediaCom. "They were among the very first to see the value of PhoneMiser."
