During the year which ended April 1, 1995, Egghead reported net income of $2.7 million, or 15 cents per share Cents per share

, on sales of $862.6 million. The net loss for fiscal year 1994 was $0.5 million, or 3 cents per share, on sales of $778.3 million.

Sales of $862.6 million in fiscal 1995 increased $84.3 million, or 11 percent, compared to $778.3 million a year ago.

Retail sales of $434.0 million in fiscal 1995 increase $60.5 million, or 16 percent, compared to $373.5 million in fiscal 1994. Comparable store sales increased 21 percent. Comparable stores sales for the fourth quarter increased 13 percent. Comparable store sales increases by month for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1995 and the first month of fiscal 1996 were as follows: January January: see month. , 24 percent; February February: see month. , 15 percent; March, 2 percent; and April, 8 percent.

The fiscal 1995 comparable store sales increase was partially offset by the closure of 20 stores during fiscal 1995. The company operated 169 stores at the end of fiscal 1995, compared to 189 at the end of fiscal 1994.

) sales of $428.5 million in fiscal 1995, increased $23.7 million, or 6 percent, compared to $404.8 million last year. CGE sales of $107.9 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 1995, increased $8.0 million, or 8 percent, compared to the fourth quarter last year. The changes in CGE sales by month for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1995 and the first month of fiscal 1996 were as follows: January, 8 percent; February, negative 2 percent; March, 16 percent; and April, negative 7 percent.

Gross margin as a percentage of sales was 11.8 percent in fiscal 1995, compared to 13.2 percent in fiscal 1994. The company lowered prices in both its retail and CGE businesses near the end of the second quarter of fiscal 1994 to improve its competitive position. The fiscal 1995 gross margin reflects a full year of the lower prices, compared to approximately one half year of lower prices in fiscal 1994. Gross margin as a percentage of sales continues to be affected by industry-wide pricing related to both competitors' pricing and vendors' pricing.

Selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) expense was 10.5 percent of sales in fiscal 1995, compared to 11.5 percent in fiscal 1994. Selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) expense for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1995 was 10.1 percent of sales, compared to 10.8 percent in the fourth quarter of fiscal 1994.
